First off, Masterclass makes you jump through flaming hoops to cancel their service. So what does Masterclass do? They make you scroll through screen after screen of offers with the "cancel" button greyed out the entire time.
But there's more. The thing that's most troublesome - and the thing regulatory bodies such as the FTC should crack down on right away - is the unclear and inconspicuous way they notify you that your annual $180 subscription is going to renew. It's actually borderline diabolical.
Here's what they do. They send you an email with the subject line, "Congrats! Nearly one year with MasterClass." Then buried inside the email under other text it says "As a reminder, your one-year annual membership will renew on May 20, 2021, unless you take action in your account settings."
FTC guidelines say your disclosures for negative option continuity products such as this must be clear and conspicuous. Their disclosures are anything but clear and conspicuous. Again, buried inside an email with the subject line, "Congrats! Nearly one year with MasterClass".
It's clear management is under pressure from investors to show low churn so they can demonstrate LTV/CAC numbers worthy of a SaaS company. And it's clear management's priority is to hide disclosures as much as possible to show nice retention numbers. The problem is these retention numbers aren't based on reality. They're not a reflection of members liking your content. They're a reflection of Masterclass being intentionally sneaky.
Instead of an unhealthy obsession with artificially keeping customers on board, obsess over how to create content that SO GOOD that customers WANT to stay on board with you in years 2 and beyond without having to be tricked. Create content that's so useful that customers consider it an essential part of their lives.

CAVEAT EMPTOR. They subscribe you and say they will warn you before they automatically charge you the $240 for the next year, but they do not.
I didn't use this for more than a few times because it was so boring.
THIS IS A SCAM COMPANY with sub par content. Never ever trust a company like this - they should be investigated. Shame on you Masterclass for stealing money from people during Covid.

Paid again for nothing.

We split a subscription with a friend before covid. We barely used the service as we were only interested on one topic. I forgot to cancel my subscription and I end up paying 200$ this year, it's totally my fault but I suggest to be aware of subscriptions periods when you split the subscription, it's an easy trick fall in.

Tricked into annual renewal

Really good and inspiring classes

Really good and inspiring classes!
I’ve had it for a year, and when I needed to cancel, the team (specifically Yurieth) was very fast and friendly at responding and helping with the issue. Thank you

Really terrible experience

Really terrible experience. My daughter gave me a subscription for Christmas. I cannot log in without Masterclass trying to charge me.
After 4 weeks, I have not gotten the issue resolved with the customer service. They send me links that do not work. What a waste of time and money!!!

A Refund May Be a Headache

You know... I don't claim to know much, but I feel as if MasterClass has, in some ways, falsely advertised Brandon McMillan as its main source of videos. I didn't know anything about MasterClass. I've actually never heard of them. However, when I saw Brandon McMillan as a cover page for MasterClass, I was happy to become a member to learn more about training my pup.
To cut the long story short, I found out what MasterClass was all about after joining and IMMEDIATELY asked for a refund. Though I'm certain that they have some nice videos in there, I wasn't about to linger through the website as I was already misinformed.
I asked for a refund IMMEDIATELY after paying for my subscription and I have yet to get one back from them. It's been a week. I know ... I know... the holidays slow things down. Nevertheless, I wanted my refund. The other recipient that got the free gift also asked for her membership to be immediately cancelled, but to no success.
We were actually promised a full refund...via email and via phone, but have yet to get a refund. I have emails from agents letting me know that they'll fully refund me, but nothing.
I write this for those to understand that..though they say you have 30 days to cancel your subscription for a full refund...you may not really get a refund when asked about it.
MasterClass is probably all it's hyped up to be, but unfortunately that experience was never mine to enjoy I guess. If I ever get a refund from them, I'll be discouraged to even learn more about them in the future.
I'm hoping that I get my refund back. Soon

These Guys are CON Artisits !!!

These Guys are CON Artisits !!!
You cant phone them
You can only email them and wait for their response
Then they make excuse after excuse.
In November I noticed they were running a 2 for the price of 1 annual membership.
I wanted to buy this as a Christmas present. I emailed asked when does this offer end they replied 30 November.
I emailed that I would like to make use of the two fro 1 Offer but can I have the membership start on Christmas Day
They replied that the membership would have to start on the day they process the application.
I bought the 2 for 1membership on the 30 November and the membership started on the 1st December.
I gave the present to my partner on the 25 December missing out on 25 days.
Low and behold it turns out they are running the 2 for 1 deal till the 30th December.
Before Christmas I tried emailing to see if they would start my membership on the 25th but they will not !!!

Entertainment; but not a class.

I found the class informative, but without any real teaching. Perhaps the next will be better.

I actually love masterclass

I actually love masterclass, and found it useful for a variety of things, especially cooking.
I've just joined a company which is a FREE masterclass E learning platform with instructors from Google, Amazon and world business/branding leaders, I'd love to hear you thoughts on this too
